Sergi Puig Serna (Badalona, Spain) is a composer currently based in Graz and Barcelona.

He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Composition at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona, studying with Ramon Humet and Benet Casablancas, graduating with the Extraordinary Award in Composition in 2019. During these years, his music was featured at the FRINGE Festival of Torroella de Montgrí; he was selected for the Plural Ensemble Jóvenes Compositores Prize with ANON conducted by Fabián Panisello, and his orchestral work Parasomnia was premiered at the Liceu graduation concert under Beat Furrer.

Puig Serna continued his studies at the Kunstuniversität Graz, completing a Master’s degree in Composition with Beat Furrer, receiving the Musikförderungspreis der Stadt Graz in 2023. He is currently finishing a second Master’s degree in Musiktheater with Annesley Black. In 2024/25, he was selected for the Cursus de composition et d’informatique musicale at IRCAM in Paris. 

Notable works include HADES, a monodrama for soprano and ensemble based on James Joyce’s Ulysses, performed in Vienna, Graz and Dublin by the ensemble Between Feathers; Nostalghia for solo violin, performed by María Alejandra Jiménez at the ATTACCA Festival in Basel; Twenty-Four Hokku on a Modern Theme for soprano and double bass, premiered at the Auditori del Liceu by Karera Fujita and Louis Siracusa-Schneider with support from the Catalan Government (OSIC grant); and viene da lontano for string quartet, premiered by Quatuor Diotima at Impuls Festival Graz and later performed at the Barcelona String Quartet Biennale at L’Auditori by Atenea Quartet.

Recent premieres include ciò che il silenzio disegna for string quartet and saxophone, commissioned by the Mostra Sonora Festival and awarded at the ARTSOM International Competition, performed by Fabrik Quartet and Ricard Capellino; raum der natur for piano trio, winner of the Franz Schubert & Modern Music International Composition Competition 2025 and subsequently performed in Cologne and Münster by ensemble hand werk; I tot caminant em va semblar que el temps reculava for large ensemble, commissioned by Ensemble Zeitfluss; and Bientôt, ou jamais for cello and electronics, premiered at the IRCAM Cursus Concert by Alexa Ciciretti (Ensemble Cairn).

He also has a particular interest in interdisciplinary and stage works. He has collaborated with Spanish choreographer Silvia Batet on three contemporary dance productions, notably Oblivion, an acousmatic work that received the Institut del Teatre Prize (2020) and led to a full-length commission for the 2021 Grec Festival in Barcelona. Oblivion has since been performed extensively at festivals and concert venues across Europe, earning several awards and nominations. 

He is currently working on his first chamber opera, Jo, Núvol, commissioned by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and Disseny Hub Barcelona within the ÒH!PERA 25/26 programme, with a libretto by Alicia Kopf and stage direction by Lucía Del Greco, to be premiered from 2–5 July 2026.
